You will notice that the comic is labeled as "Page 6" on the layout and script. This is because,
early on, I needed to divide one of my comic pages into two pages due to the fact that my
layout was too crowded. Since I am usually scripted about 5-6 pages ahead of actual comic
production, I had to bump the numbers up by one. Thus S.O.S. Page 7 was scripted as Page 6.
The script is usually the first page that I do. I decide what plot I want in a specific
page and how many panels I want and what I want said or done in each panel. I also list
specific details I want to pass on to Gloria about important things in each panel along
with misc. notes
The panel layout is basically how I want the panels drawn. Sometimes I put detailed
descriptions in, sometimes I sketch how I envision the panel should look. It all depens
on what I have already put in the script and what I want to emphasize.
After I give the panel layout and the script to Gloria, I sit with her and work out what
works best, what I need to change and the things I need to get more detailed descriptions
and references for. The sketch is usually the final cut before the final version is
drawn and inked.
The ink is the final version of the comic in hard copy. Gloria REDRAWS the comic on Bristol
(not to be confused with the sketch above done on sketch paper) and then inks it. It is
sometimes minus some smaller details and does not contain the comic's text/speech.
Sometimes I neglect to include references or details I want included in the comic. In order to
clarify this for Gloria, I will sometimes arrange elements on the ink or sketch with the computer
and then print them out for her reference.
This is the page of additional details I requested for Page 7.
This, of course, is the final comic. The extra details have been added by both myself
and Gloria in photoshop and I have done all of the text and captions.
